This patch only works with tools version 5.5.2. Please make sure your version is the same.
Run /usr/sbin/vmware-checkvm to confirm.

For Mouse scroll problem you indicated the solution above . But the problem is where is the ''Configured Mouse'' section and how the changes performed. Thanks

The patch is located on my server. You can get the patch using wget as shown in the first line of Step 3. If you don't apply the patch, the video will still work, however you will not have advanced video functionality. The patch is a plain text file so you can look at what is being done (for your peace of mind) to know that I'm not trying backdoor your system. ;-)

Thank for the guide. I am absolute beginner and wish to ask some questions. Mistakenly I passed the patching caution (3rd step) and continued the process . For now it works fine. What is the aim of patching?
2. The first paragrafh of 3rd step you indicated; ''Put the contents of the vmware-config-tools-5.5.2-patch-diff.txt file in your home directory. (Look over the changes for your peace of mind)'' I didnt get, sorry. I couldn't find any file named patch-diff.txt . Could you specify the exact location of that file.

Not sure what your problem might be. It looks like the file is not being patched correctly. When you download the patch make sure you are doing it on your Ubuntu system and not on a Windows system then transferring over. Also, this patch only works for the 5.5.2 tools.

I am getting a syntax error "line 4491, near 'elsif' ... aborted due to compilation errors."

What do you think I should do to fix this?

I was thinking it might be easier for me to place a white board in my front yard to 'blog' on.

Unfortunately that also brings with it many issues.

When I update the white board I would need to put up some detour signs so nobody would drive by and see the 'site' while 'under construction'.
Archiving would be difficult.
I would have to keep an eye out the window to keep 'site defacers' away.
Not sure I want to get into implementing a firewall.
Excessive wind could knock the board over and 'crash' the 'site'.
I might get tired of sitting next to the board so visitors would get to see a 'live feed' of the administrator.

Just one of the many odd things that pops into my mind occasionally.

Enjoy
